Mellel's upgrade policy is simple: When you purchase Mellel you get 2 years of free updates. All major or minor upgrades or updates released during those two years will be completely free to you and you will be able to download and install them without hesitation.
This upgrade policy rule applies to any Mellel owner who bought his or her copy after December 31, 2004. Anyone who bought a copy before that date is entitled to 3 years of free updates.
Following are some of the more frequently asked questions about upgrading or updating Mellel.
How much will the upgrade cost and for how long will it last?
An upgrade costs $19. The upgrade will extend your license for Mellel for 2 more years based on the original purchase date.
I just bought Mellel, but now I hear that a major update is coming. Will I have to pay for Mellel again? Will I need to buy an upgrade?
No. You would not have to pay anything. Your license is time based and will work just fine with the new version.
I opened Mellel and saw that my license expired. I'm back to "unregistered" demo mode. Does that mean that I need to buy an upgrade?
There are two options here: if this happened to you all of a sudden with a version of Mellel that ran just fine before, you probably do not need to purchase an upgrade. It is very likely that your registration info was somehow damaged. All you need to do is re-register Mellel using the original registration info you got from us (or write to us to retrieve your lost serial number).
On the other hand, if you've discovered that you're "unregistred" after updating to a newer version, you probably need to purchase an upgrade to continue to use this newer version, or revert to an older version.
I've bought Mellel a while ago, but don't remember exactly when. How will I know if I need to upgrade?
You will be notified when you launch an upgraded copy of Mellel that was released after your two (or three) years of free updates are up. Important: It would be a good idea to run a newer version of Mellel to see if this is the case before installing it over the older version.
How can you tell when I will need to upgrade?
Every registration code for Mellel is date encoded, so Mellel will be able to tell when your personal code expires.
I like Mellel as it is, and don't want to pay the upgrade fee. What should I do?
Simply don't pay the upgrade fee. You can continue to use your existing copy of Mellel just as you did up till now. The upgrade fee requirements only apply to newer versions of Mellel.
I bought a regular license a year ago, but lately I've upgraded to the 5 Pack - when will my license expire?
You've made a smart move: the upgrade-clock gets reset when you upgrade to the 5 pack, so the 2 years of free updates are counted from the when you've upgraded to the 5 pack. The original purchase date will be ignored.
