RedleX have released Mellel 1.5.5, an update to its advanced word-processor. The main new features in this updates are support for input in Chinese, Japanese and Korean, an innovative style variations option, a replace styles tool, support for automatically opening .doc files, enhanced language support and many other features.

New Mellel 1.5.5 features in detail:

• Chinese (simplified, traditional), Japanese, Korean Support: Mellel 1.5.5 now supports input in all two-byte languages, including Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Through it's innovative character styles, offering secondary font support and style variations you can mix any number of languages with automatic matching of script, font, font face and size between languages. Mellel also supports export and import of RTF files containing two-byte text.
• Style variations (sub-styles): This innovative and unique option allows you to set up to 8 variations per character style, maximising your options and minimising the length of the style list. This unique option removes many of the problems connected with style creation and management.
• Replace Styles: This unique and innovative feature allows you to replace with one stroke every style or styling attribute in your document with your own style. A great tool to maintain style consistency and migrate files from RTF or other word processors.
• Opening DOC files: Using the free service AntiWord Service Mellel now offers you the option to open MS Word files directly in Mellel. AntiWord currently support only text in .doc document.
• Style inheritance: Style variations in Mellel will inherit their attributes from the base variation when it changes (unless the attribute was changed earlier for a variation).
• Enhanced language support: including support for "dead keys" (three-part diacritic combinations). This greatly improves the input with several scripts, including some East European scripts and Platonic Greek.
• Soft line break: By pressing Shift+Return you can now insert a soft line break inside a paragraph.
• Font Matching and synchronisation: When changing fonts, Mellel will now try to match the font-face between fonts.
• Automatic opening of Plain Text files (.txt): by drag and drop or by setting such files to open in Mellel.
• Default encoding for plain text: This option allow you to set the default encoding for opening plain text files.
• Reset Variations: This style variation option allows you to reset all or any of the variations to fit with the base variation.
• Named Variations: This preferences option allow you to set a name for the variations (e.g.: bold, bold-italic, cursive, etc.).
• Find and Replace enhancements: Mellel now includes a progress bar for all find and replace operations, with a display of the search results.
• A much faster "Replace All": 70 percent faster, to be precise
• Unicode auto-detection: Mellel will now automatically detect a Unicode encoded text.
• Document Styles indication: Document styles are now clearly marked (with a diamond shape).
• Cmd+B, U, and I used for ad-hoc changes: for all those who feel styles are still too advanced.
